Guide to Post Occupancy Evaluation

Guide to Post Occupancy Evaluation report and toolkit

Published in 2006 by AUDE and the University of Westminster with support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

This guidance originated as an AUDE Research project.  The aim was to develop a toolkit of good practice on Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) for the use of professionals and staff in the higher education sector.

The guidance avoids adopting any particular definition of POE, preferring instead to embrace the concept that the whole life of a building or development is the responsibility of Estates Professionals.

The guidance, therefore, covers both post construction and post occupation reviews and has been extended to include a strategic review stage - encompassing the process from initiation of the POE at the inception of each project, through the construction and occupation stages, up to and including a strategic review stage - offering tools to use in all of them.

AUDE's purpose in publishing the guidance document (below) and accompanying suite of templates and toolkit items (see below) is to assist in bringing more rigour to the management of developing and operating buildings, establishing easy links to institution standards and raising the level of good practice in higher education estates.

Whether your choice is to audit the construction process, review your occupation approach, ensure good quality design is consistently delivered, monitor building performance or even review and adapt your strategic decision process, this report and toolkit will assist you.
