AUDE Development and Promotion of the SMG Space Management Tools Project

Current Project

The AUDE Space Management Tools Development Project is seeking to improve the management of space in the higher education sector, in line with the national agenda towards greater financial and environmental sustainability.

The project aims to improve the SMG tools currently available (see below), through identifying what is required, how issues might be addressed and how improvements could be implemented.  The project will address training and dissemination issues.

A bid for the project work was submitted to the HEFCE Leadership, Governance and Management (LGM) Fund.  Support for the project from the LGM fund was secured in August 2009.

A project steering group was established, chaired by Rod Mallinder, Director of Estate and Facilties Management at the University of Brighton and AUDE Secretary.  The group includes Directors of Estates, space management practitioners and representatives from the UK funding councils.

Consultants Kilner Planning (Sian Kilner) and London Economics (Patrice Muller and Rohan Chindooroy) were appointed carry out the project work.

Planned delivery of outputs from this work is March 2010.  Workshops will be organised at the AUDE conference, followed by regional dissemination.

The Space Management Group (SMG)

The original Space Management Group (SMG) for higher education was set up in 2003/4.  Its main work programme concluded in 2007/8.  The project produced a variety of good practice reports and recommendations, along with case studies and a tools for institutions to use.   See the project web site for more information:
