S-Lab Awards 2012

Released on 11/01/2012

S-Lab Awards 2012
S-Lab Awards 2012

This new awards scheme recognises excellence in laboratory design, operation and management in all sectors, and in laboratory-based teaching and learning within educational institutions, that creates improved performance whilst enhancing safety and sustainability.

Such an award scheme is timely because organisations are under growing pressure to improve the performance of their laboratories due to financial pressures, legal compliance issues, rising expectations from laboratory users and rising energy and other costs.

There will be a two stage entry process, with stage 1, an initial short form to encourage applications, and a second stage with more information. The deadline for Stage 1 applications is 29 February 2012.  Follow the link below for more details and to download an Application Form.

Entries will be judged by independent judges (including S-Lab staff).  Entries will be judged by the following criteria: benefits, completeness, effort, originality, significance and cost effectiveness. Winners will be announced at the S-Lab conference in June 2012.

Most categories are open to any organisations and laboratories in any sector, in any country, although in this first year it is anticipated that most applications will be from the UK. A minority of categories are focused on educational institutions, reflecting the collaboration with the National HE STEM Programme.

The Categories are:

Laboratory Effectiveness

Laboratory Environmental Improvement

Laboratory Equipment and Services

Laboratory-based Teaching and Learning Innovation

Making a Difference

New or Refurbished Laboratory

Schools and Colleges

Awards nominations and applications are accepted from any lab within the UK.
