Universities that Count report
Released on 23/11/2009
The first annual report from Universities that Count (UTC) – the benchmarking and performance improvement scheme for higher education - was launched in November 2009.
55 institutions were involved in the scheme, which was lead by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC). The findings showed that 75% of universities surveyed have carbon reduction targets, 48% have a sustainable procurement policy, 39% include student environmental stewardship in their corporate policy, and 45% completed the full corporate responsibility index.
Anne Raudaskoski, Sustainability Manger at the University of Westminster added; “Universities that Count (UTC) has given the University an opportunity for the first time to review its social and environmental impact in a holistic and systematic way. External assessment has been vital in winning hearts and minds of senior managers, getting them to focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and what it means and getting them to understand the importance of it for the University.”
The launch of the annual report also marks the opening of the application process for universities and colleges to sign up to Year Two of the scheme.
The UTC team are now taking registrations for year 2. The index opens for completion on Monday 30 November 2009 and closes on Friday 26 February 2010. To download the sign up form please click http://www.eauc.org.uk/utc_year_2
