Positive Change to Create an Inspiring, Sustainable Campus
LU Facilities Team are a synchronised in-house team of 576 staff, working as One Team, passionate and committed to positive change, with a shared responsibility and central focus on sustainability, delivering new goals that will create a sustainable world-class institution.
Facilities culture is one of caring about people, listening and getting on with the job. Guided by an ethos of strong teamwork defined by Facilities values, they enhance student experience and satisfaction through the physical estate, enabling delivery of the University’s Strategic Plan’s vision and priorities as a global high-quality institution.
Developed in house, the University has a new Estate Strategy which challenges traditional sector culture about space use, embraces new ways of working and promotes positive behaviour change, capitalising opportunities to re-use and repurpose underutilised space and reduce carbon.
With sustainability a number one priority, work on delivering the Solar Farm and Green Heat Network Fund scheme to decarbonise our utilities places Lancaster University as a sector leader in progressing delivering net zero for Scope 1 and 2, replacing our gas boilers with electrically operated heat pumps.
We are delighted to share our achievements that have helped the Facilities Team success in winning the AUDE Estates/Facilities Team of the Year 2024, recognising these as learning examples to share with other universities to help forge a collaborative network of shared responsibilities in tackling carbon reduction across the sector.
