Vacancy for deputy chair of AUDE capital special interest group

30 April 2026      Cheryl Pick, Strategic Projects Manager

AUDE’s capital special interest group committee is looking to appoint a deputy chair to ensure we can deliver on the ambitious workplans we have for 2026 and beyond.  Could you devote some time to further support the work of capital colleagues across the sector?  In return you will get to forge strong working relationships with colleagues from across the country, learn more about capital topics in detail and raise the profile of the work you do for your own institution

The workplan for 2026 includes the following:

  • Soft landings
  • Procurement
  • Value for money
  • Sustainability in projects

We are looking for a deputy chair who will work directly with the group chair to deliver the workstreams above and directly contribute where needed.  If you are interested, please a short statement by 5 June to cheryl@aude.ac.uk including answers to the following:

  • Why are you interested in becoming the deputy chair?
  • What relevant knowledge/experience do you have?
  • What do you think you can offer the committee?
  • Are there other topics that you would like to lead work on?

We are interested in reflecting the diversity of the AUDE community on the committee, and also the variety of universities in the sector and so welcome your interest no matter what kind of institution you represent.

If you would like a short chat about the role, please contact the current chair David.hall@glasgow.ac.uk

Applications will be considered by group chair David Hall, Director of Projects, University of Glasgow. The outcome will be communicated by 12 June. Please note, the capital committee next meet on 22 June 14.30 - 15.30 via teams and should AUDE appoint, the successful candidate would be very welcome to attend if available.

Tenure
A three-year term with an option of a further three years if re-elected to run concurrently, renewable only once.

The main aims of the role are

  1. Assist and support the group chair in defining work programme activities that meet members’ needs.
  2. Attend and contribute to the capital executive committee meetings x 4 per year, via teams
  3. Develop strategic partnerships to identify how best to promote capital development.
  4. Deputise occasionally for the group chair when they are unavailable. This will include chairing by the special interest group’s (SIG) own executive meetings, reporting to and/or attending the full AUDE executive committee which are held on a quarterly basis
  5. Develop plans for communication, reach, impact, training and membership in order to promote the UK HE estate as a leader of sustainable development
  6. Ensure membership of the capital group is maintained at appropriate levels with adequate representation of the interests of the association as a whole. Current membership is listed below.
  7. Be willing to present at member events on related issues as and when required
  8. Any other relevant/related duties which from time to time might be requested by the Executive.

The meetings are held quarterly in March, June, September and December, lasting three hours. At least one of these will be in person, the rest will be via teams. The meeting will also require two hours preparation time to submit a written update to the executive and read the associated agenda and papers.

What you will get in return

  • A seat on the national executive committee when the chair is unable to attend
  • Full support from the AUDE team and Executive Director
  • An amazing sense of pride and achievement when you see all the hard work come to fruition
