Estates Management Group seeking new chair & secretary

AUDE are looking for two enthusiastic volunteers with sound knowledge of HE to fulfil the roles of chair and secretary in our Estates Management Group. The positions are open to any member of AUDE. The group was established in 2017 and has been expertly chaired by Duncan Stiles, Head of Compliance and Assurance, University of Warwick. Sam Archer, Property Surveyor, University of Warwick has provided the crucial role of secretary and they will both step down from the 30th June.

The successful candidates will be responsible for leading likeminded HE professionals in raising the profile of the property management, sourcing solutions to issues and enabling networking and learning opportunities. 

The chair of this group will ensure proper representation of seniority and specialist knowledge to create an effective working group. The group consists of 40 members representing institutions from across the UK. You will have the support of:

  • Daniel Ladbury, Director of Estates, Sheffield Hallam University, AUDE North East Chair and Executive Sponsor of Estates Management Group
  • Paul Watson, Head of Property, Loughborough University and AUDE Deputy Chair Estates Management Group
  • Cheryl Pick, AUDE Projects and Engagement Manager 
  • Corinne Merriman, AUDE Events Manager 
  • Martin Higgs, AUDE Communications and Press Officer 

The successful chair will: 

  • Understand the professional development needs of the groups members and liaise with AUDE’s professional development group to develop an offering 
  • Ensure that the HE strategic estates management agenda is considered in its fullest 
  • Create a hub of resources for members (with support from the AUDE team)
  • Identify areas of improvement such as collaboration with other sector bodies to enhance our work in this area 
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, and AUDE staff 
  • Advise AUDE on the types of work streams to focus on 
  • Speak to press/journalists on occasion and/or recommend a suitable specialist 
  • Produce a short paper on the groups' work for the group executive sponsor
  • Attend the AGM 
  • Report to the executive group sponsor

The successful secretary will:

  • Assist the chair with minutes and administration of the group

Time commitment for both roles includes: 

  • 4x group meetings either telephone calls, video call of face-to-face meetings  
  • Up to 8-10 days per year own time review of papers etc (chair only)

The term of office is three years with an option to extend for an additional three years.
