We welcome the University of Law as a new AUDE member

20 November 2018      Martin Higgs, Communications Officer

We are delighted to announce that The University of Law has joined AUDE as our latest member institution.

The University’s largest campus is situated in Bloomsbury, central London – just a street or two from the British Museum - but it also operates from seven additional campuses across the country, including in Leeds, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Law, Legal Practice, and Bar Professional Training. Partnership arrangements with the universities of Reading, Liverpool and Exeter allow The University of Law to deliver courses in yet further locations. Business courses and an online range of options round out the overall student offer.

The University of Law is a long-established provider of legal education, its roots leading back to 1876. But it is a decidedly 21st century university, becoming the first independent institution to be granted degree-awarding powers by the Privy Council in 2006, and gaining its title as a university in 2012.

Its long history gives it real credibility in its specialist field. Many law firms send their trainees exclusively to the university, while it has impacted on the training and professional development of lawyers in virtually every significant practice in the country. With campuses in many of the major business, legal and commercial hubs around the country, The University of Law is ideally placed as a business partner.

Caroline Churchill, Director of Estates at The University of Law, describes the “amazing opportunity in terms of support and sharing of knowledge” as being crucial in the decision to join AUDE. “We were keen to join to be part of the wider community of university estates. Having worked in a number of sectors previously I feel that the AUDE network is unique and unparalleled and I am very much looking forward to collaborating, developing and driving improvement at the ULAW micro level but also hopefully inputting at the wider sector level too.”

One of the chief challenges that Caroline and her team face – as with many AUDE members - is in managing that multi-site estate efficiently and effectively. Key issues include ensuring consistency across the estate in terms of management of assets; statutory compliance; and the delivery of facilities services across the different campuses.

Jane White, AUDE Executive Director, said: “Many AUDE members will recognise the kind of complexity that Caroline Churchill and her estates team face in running multi-site estates. We know our members will be keen to welcome colleagues at The University of Law to the AUDE team.”
