Utilisation Tool for general purpose learning space
04 March 2020 Cheryl Pick, Projects and Engagement Manager
AUDE members can now download and use a utilisation grading tool for general purpose learning. The HESMG Utilisation Grading Tool was created in 2017 to apply to general purpose learning spaces in Higher Education. It has been updated early 2020 with improved instructions for use. Download the tool and view instructions >.
The requirement for a better way of displaying and identifying learning space utilisation emerged through discussions between Space Management professionals in the HESMG network.
In a nutshell, the HESMG Utilisation Grading provides:
A shift from % figures, historically using 3 categories, to a graded 7-level system that does not natively display confusing % figures (lending itself to be respectively applied to historic data)
A format to be applied to survey data relating to general purpose* learning spaces only
Grading that has been demonstrated to fit the majority of HEIs when applied to empirical HESA EMR data
A visual tool for utilisation, using colours for maximum impact and readability
Narrative descriptions to aid how each of the 7 categories might potentially be interpreted, to inform discussions
A voluntary tool for Higher Education Institutions, to be used if it is believed to be of value to that institution
