AUDE vacancy: Risk and Assurance Group Chair

08 October 2021      Martin Higgs, Communications Officer

AUDE are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer with sound knowledge of HE to become our Risk and Assurance Task and Finish Group Chair. This person would be responsible for leading likeminded HE professionals in sourcing solutions to issues around strategic risk and assurance in Universities.

The successful person must also align the work of the group to similar groups and associations to ensure no duplication of efforts and a joined-up approach. Examples would include BUFDG, UHR, USHA, HEBCON and the HESPA risk group.

AUDE is asking for the group to identify the key risks facing the sector now and horizon scan for those heading our way and, to provide a roadmap of what AUDE can do to support its members. There is a feeling that we are not aware of the depth and breadth of challenges coming our way. We also need the group to interpret how those challenges will impact on estates and facilities management.

The chair of this group will ensure proper representation of seniority and specialist knowledge to create an effective working group. The group should also consist of members from across the geographies of member institutions and differing types of institutions (teaching, research etc).

Initially the chair of the group will feed into the national Executive Committee via our established Strategic FM Group Chaired by Lucy Black. There may be scope, depending on the review of year 1, for the task and finish group to become a special interest group of AUDE in its own right and thus the chair would take a seat on the national Executive Committee, but only in year 2 and on approval by the Executive.

AUDE have an inhouse team to help and support you. Including:

  • Jane White – Executive Director
  • Cheryl Pick – Projects and Engagement Manager
  • Corinne Merriman/Lianne Goddard – Events Manager
  • Martin Higgs – Communications and Press Officer

The position is open to all AUDE senior members (Directors, Deputy Directors and Direct reports to Directors). The successful candidate will:

  • Lead on recruiting a representative membership to support the group
  • Scope the challenges currently facing the sector in its broadest sense
  • Horizon scan the challenges coming our way
  • Create a paper for the AUDE national Executive Committee detailing these risks and how they might affect estates and facilities management
  • Create a road map to how/what AUDE can do to help its members navigate the risk and Assurance issues identified
  • You will be given space on the AUDE website to house your reports and resources enabling AUDE to communicate and signpost to members your findings and recommendations
  • Identify areas of improvement such as collaboration with other sector bodies to enhance our work in this area
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, and AUDE staff team
  • Advise AUDE on the types of work streams to focus on (prioritisation)
  • Speak to press/journalists on occasion and/or recommend a suitable specialist (this is rare) you may also be asked to contribute to the writing of press and news articles authored by AUDE
  • Produce quarterly update papers for the AUDE Executive, to be read out by the chair of the AUDE Strategic Facilities Management Group
  • Attend the AGM

Time commitment includes:

  • 4x Risk and Assurance Group meetings either telephone calls, video call of face-to-face meetings
  • Produce papers for 4x Executive committee meetings per year, and
  • 8-10 days per year own time review of papers, research etc.
  • 1x AGM meeting

The term of office is 1 year with a possibility to extend for an additional 2 years should this be deemed appropriate by the national Executive Committee.

You will receive full support and an induction from the AUDE office and a warm welcome from the Executive.

If you are interested or would like to know more please contact jane@aude.ac.uk 01509 228836.

If more than one person applies, formal written statements will be required and given to the AUDE Executive Committee for a vote in line with our constitution.

If you would like to apply but are not sure if you meet the requirements we would encourage you to still apply and/or contact Jane White.

Deadline for expressions of interest is 5pm on Friday 5th November 2021
