Regional Chair Vacancy East Midlands

17 February 2022      Cheryl Pick, Projects and Engagement Manager

Dear AUDE members,

After an incredible 3 and a half year term as chair of the East Midlands Group, Harvey Dowdy will be stepping down as she changes universities with a new job at the University of York. Please join me in congratulating Harvey and thanking her for all she has done to support members regionally and at the national executive.

The role of chair is open to directors of estates (or equivalent).

The term is for three years with an option of a further three years if re-elected.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual to take the lead in shaping the HE estates agenda both regionally, nationally and internationally. To raise your own and your institutions profile in the sector. And gain awareness of wider sector issues, adding to your personal development and CPD plan.

Job role descriptor

  • To facilitate the meeting of AUDE members within your region at regular intervals
  • To plan the meetings and chair them
  • To represent your region on the AUDE executive committee (additional four meetings per year) and feedback – or provide a representative of your region to attend the Executive if you are not available.
  • To promote AUDE and the associations overriding objective – ‘to provide strategic support and innovation to those involved in estates and facilities management within higher education.’

AUDE support to chair

  • A £2000 regional professional development budget to help the group gain access to the very best and cutting-edge information, speakers, training.
  • AUDE’s executive director (Jane White) and project and engagement manager (Cheryl Pick) will support the regional chair.

This may include, sourcing a venue (although typically held at members institutions on a volunteer rotation), sourcing speakers, liaising with regional members, communications, surveys etc.

  • It is appreciated that the regional chair role holds autonomy and the chair should feel confident to conduct regional events in a way that meets the needs of their members.

The following is taken from the AUDE constitution;

  1. REGIONAL GROUPS
  2. Each regional group shall meet at least once a year and be responsible for its own agenda.
  3. Each regional group shall have the power to determine attendance at regional group meetings.
  4. Each regional group shall determine its own constitution.
  5. Each regional group shall elect one representative to the executive committee to serve for three years, renewable for a further consecutive period of three years.
  6. Attendance at regional meetings may be open to non-member organisations but those organisations do not have voting powers in motions or elections, nor the right to hold the post of chair or representative of the regional group or officer of the association.

Deadline for nominations is the 17 March 2022.

Please also see our volunteers handbook for further information.
