Dominic Swift | Dominic is a Partner within our real estate team. He has significant project management experience gained by leading major projects and has brought this to bear as a key member of the education team. Most recently Dominic has been developing our due diligence offer and in particular developing methodologies to help our clients identify key project risks early so that they can be managed actively to reduce their impact on the delivery of the project. Dominic also advises on governance within education and regularly delivers training and seminars as part of induction programmes for new university or school governors. Dominic has been involved in large scale projects relating to student accommodation, leisure and recreational facilities and teaching spaces. He has particular expertise in advising on procurement in the context of land transactions. His clients welcome his “hands on and can-do attitude”. |
| Ryan is a commercial contracts specialist advising clients operating across a broad range of industry sectors including Higher Education. He advises on complex commercial agreements, cross-border contractual arrangements, and consumer law issues. Ryan is well-placed to support clients with international legal requirements. He maintains a central role in the development of the firm’s international practice, and represents the firm in the Pangea Net international legal network. Ryan maintains close working relationships with lawyers around the world, making him an excellent point of contact for any client engaged in cross-border transactions. |
| James is Head of our Property Litigation Department and has a wealth of experience assisting clients manage and resolve their property related disputes enabling them to focus on their core business. James acts for a diverse range of clients including large international corporates, well-known national retailers, housebuilders, public and private sector landlords, large educational establishments and developers. James has experience of all contentious matters involving commercial property including claims under leases for unpaid rent, forfeiture, dilapidations, rent reviews and service charge disputes. He has particular interest in opposed business lease renewals, trespass claims and break notice disputes. James also deals with property related professional negligence claims. He recently acted for one of the UK’s largest Building Societies in a portfolio of claims against surveyors for negligently undervaluing commercial properties. Where appropriate, James advocates the use of alternative methods of dispute resolution (including mediation and expert determination) as a means of minimising the cost and wasted management time that can be involved in taking a property dispute to Court. |
